Cool Summer Programs

June, July and August are cool - and hot - at the East Haddam Free Public Library. In addition to Video Game Night, the Awesome Hour, KidStuff, and the Write Club, there will be many activities between now and September for folks of all ages.

Wednesday June 30th at 2:30 pm: Dive into a summer of fun with Turtles' Day. Learn about turtles with instructor Kasha Breau of the Glastonbury Audubon Society. Meet live turtles and make a turtle craft after the presentation. Refreshments will be served. Age 5 and up.

Friday July 9th at 3:00 pm: What do animals wear? Have fun while you learn at Fur and Feathers - Animal Clothing, presented by Master Wildlife Conservationist Volunteer Al Petell. Refreshments will be served. Age 5 and up.

Monday July 12th at 6:00 pm: Nancy from Ballek's Garden Center will present Planting for Wildlife. Refreshments will be served. Age 12 (or so) and up.

Friday July 16th at 2:00 pm: Create a beautiful fish fossil work of art with the stone-rubbing technique. Age 6 and up.

Monday July 19th at 7:00 pm: Dr. Lance McLean will talk about animals, their care, and what it's like to be an Animal Doctor. Dr. McLean will have lots of really neat stuff to see and hear. Refreshments will be served. Age 5 and up.

Wednesday July 28th at 5:00 pm: Make a duck sock puppet or hat. Age 5-10 (or so).

Friday August 6th at 5:00 pm: Create a swivel bracelet, necklace or anklet from fishing lures and beads. Don't worry - no hooks! Age 7-15 (or so).

Monday August 9th at 2:00 pm: Become a junior paleontologist. Search for fossils and identify them at our Fossil Dig. A prize will be awarded to the young scientist who finds Spike the Spinosaurus' tooth. Ages 5-10 (or so).

And for our youngest patrons: Join us for Picnic Pals every Wednesday at noon from June 30th until August 11th. Bring your lunch and your favorite cuddly friend, and listen to stories read by Grandma Beth.

The last KidStuff session will be Friday, June 25th at 4pm. The second meeting of the Write Club will be held on Monday June 28th at 6pm, and at the same time on the last Monday of each upcoming month .
