2014 Bat Fest at the Sanctuary at Shephardfields

M. Heidtmann
On Saturday May 24th, the library will host a charitable event to aid Bat Conservation International in its effort to help researchers find a way to eradicate White Nose Syndrome, a disease that has already caused the death of nine-million insect-eating bats. The event will be educational, but fun as well. There will be arts&crafts to be raffled, food & beverages, PowerPoint presentations for adults and kids, activities for kids, live music, and an evening bat-walk. The program will start at 3:00 pm,   with bands and presentations at regular intervals throughout the afternoon and evening. The bat-walk will start at around 8:30; the time when most of our local bats appear for a night of insect-hunting. During the walk, with the aid of a "bat detector" device, you will hear the echolocation calls of the hunting bats. The walk, and the event, should be over by 9:00 pm or so. There is no admission fee, but a donation will be much appreciated. Please join in the fun, and help us help BCI and bats! Thanks!
