Looking Forward to A Great New Year!

In addition to our regular programs, we have new ones every month for the upcoming year. Start the new year by learning about Animal Tracks and the Critters That Made Them with conservationist Al Petell. Play an animal-track game after the presentation. Friday January 13th at 4:30. Age 5 and up.

Speaking of critters, we can't forget the Creatures of the Night. Meet the authors and illustrators of Library Lycanthropy: A Spooky Anthology at the book-signing, Monday January 30th. Books can be purchased or ordered at the party. The 42 page, full-color book will soon be available for purchase from Amazon, - but get it for less from Your Friendly Neighborhood Library. The book-signing time is yet to be determined, so stay tuned.

We have a lot of arts and crafts programs planned for middle schoolers to adults, including: paint a stained-glass angel, dragon or horse; decorate old blue jeans using a pattern and fabric paint; make jewelry and hair accessories, as well as decoupage and holiday craft projects. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the Library, a giant invincible fire breathing turtle leaps on to the big screen to terrify and insult good taste in movies. It's time for EHFPL's monthly bad movie, Gamera the Invincible!

That's right Gamera the Invincible, A monster so terrifying, his own movie trailer must mention his name 9 times in 90 seconds! A beast so unstoppable that Plans A-Y were deemed useless - leaving the UN no choice but to enactPLAN Z! A movie so frenzied that American movie makers inserted scenes with American actors to slow down the action (or something... we're really not quite sure what they were going for with that but still it's exciting and surely worthy of an exclamation point)! GAMERA THE INVINCIBLE!

Bats:Masters of the Night

October is the month to celebrate bats. In fact, all of 2011 is The Year of the Bat. Your friendly neighborhood library is pleased to announce its affiliation with Bat Conservation International in a joint venture to educate the public about bats, how they benefit mankind and the planet, and how to ensure the survival of these fascinating creatures.

Please join us on Friday, October 21st at 6pm for a PowerPoint presentation The Disappearing Faces of North America's Bats. Learn about bats, their lives and lore, the threats they face, and what you can do to help. There will be a program for kids 5 and up, Trick or Treat for Bats, Monday October 24th at 4pm. Play games, win prizes, and make a Trick or Treat for Bats box.

Hear true spooky stories as well as tales about monster ducks and the life styles of classic movie monsters. Come to the library on Monday, October 25th at 5:00 pm for a reading of selected stories from Midnight Stroll and Monster Taxonomy by Maureen Heidtmann. Also hear the tales of Count Quackula and other odd ducks from The Driveby Book of Duck Facts and Monster Ducks, ghost- written by Maureen Heidtmann for Driveby Duck. This program is for ages 5 and up.

Get a witch's shawl on, a broomstick you can crawl on, and fly over to the library on October 27th at 6:00 for the Addams Family Theme Halloween Party. Be mysterious and spooky, play games and have treats.

Continuing with our popular Terrible Thursdays series, we will have a free showing of the movie The Giant Claw on October 28th at 6:30 pm. Be very, very afraid - but be prepared to laugh!

The Creatures of the Night are calling to middle and high school authors and artists. The creatures are hungry for stories and illustrations and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of old and new fiends (er-friends) who would like to submit works of art, prose and/or poetry to the book: Vampires and Werewolves of Moodus. When all of the artwork and stories have been harvested, they will be published. All of last year's creature features have already been formatted into book form but more pages need to be filled, so make the night creatures happy by spilling your imagination onto a blank page.
